Renaturation on the company grounds of Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik GmbH in Dohr
Marc Jobelius has been responsible for production at Kampf's Dohr and Wiehl sites since the beginning of 2021. The 47-year-old already completed his training at the company in 1990. In the interview, he talks about the plans to renaturalize part of the factory site in Dohr.
Renaturation
Renaturation refers to the restoration of diverse habitats for animals and plants. Measures are implemented to bring ecosystems back to a near-natural state.
Mr Jobelius, the renaturation of the company grounds is very close to your heart. How did the project come about?
I guess it's mainly related to the fact that I'm a great nature lover, so it's also important to me that our employees find a retreat in nature. Back in 2019, after we moved into the main building in Dohr, the then Managing Director of Kampf Schneid- und Wickeltechnik GmbH, Dr. Witt, and I planted the flower bed in the front area together with volunteer employees. Which was more or less the starting signal for the current project.
Since last year, the area has even been populated by animal inhabitants. Who had the idea to build an insect hotel?
I got the idea from a friend of my father-in-law who had already built several insect hotels. He completed the hotel in summer 2021 in two and a half months. Since then, insects of all kinds have found shelter here: ants, beetles and small insects, butterflies, but also bats. In addition, with the support of beekeeper Steffi Erdmann, we have established two beehives on the grounds. We sell the honey produced by the wild bees to interested parties. A pond and a flower meadow for butterflies are also planned.
Of course, a project like this is not only noticed by the staff, but also by others. Is there a strategy behind it?
First and foremost, we want to create a meeting place for our employees, but also for the pupils from the surrounding area. We maintain several school cooperations and want to offer the pupils a place for biological lessons. In this way, we want them to establish a connection with the company outside of technology. The name of our company - Kampf - should have a positive connotation, so that our offer of internships and apprenticeships becomes more attractive.

What are the distinguishing features of the Dohr site? Are there any special features?
I consider the Dohr site to be a "department" of the main site. Compared to Wiehl, the location is much smaller, which makes the distances shorter. We act in an agile manner and see ourselves as a sworn unit with a high level of "know-how", as we only employ skilled workers. So, the whole Kampf company can profit from it.
We take great care of our relationship with the vocational school and thus draw the attention of trainees from other companies to Kampf for a job possibility after their training. As an examination centre, the trainees can also take their examination for cutting machine operators for turning and milling technology directly on our premises. Which makes the Dohr site remarkable.
Are you planning any more renaturation projects?
We also planned more in this direction and would like to take root to expand the idea of a green area on the company premises. We would like to think bigger, apart from the Dohr site, in order to create a nature-oriented space for our employees, as well for the people in the communities.
